Department Summary

The vision of the PDT is to provide our customers with a market leading control system solution that is of the highest standards of safety and quality. Our products are delivered on-time to maximize the customer’s market up-time with the least interruptions to their process.

Position Summary

The Project Designer manages the defined project design process including gathering a customer’s requirements, configuring the components, and optimizing the design, creating sequence of operations and software setup, completing configuration/programming tasks, and hand over the project to commissioning. A project designer is responsible to coordinate with Production and Supply chain to ensure the project is shipped on time. A designer will also interact with Supply Chain and Sales. This role is expected to work with a level of independence and be able to provide guidance to technicians but may require occasional support from a senior project designer. Please note that this is an entry level position.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Gather project requirements from Sales information, customer documents and correspondence, other sources as applicable.
  • Create load list (project designs) and other documents to define projects.
  • Interpret customer requirements and technical documentation applicable to equipment control for indoor and outdoor greenhouse facilities.
  • Configure software to control horticultural equipment for new and existing Argus systems per the project scope.
  • Follow all procedures to fulfill project requirements including filling out checklists to ensure a high quality of projects.
  • Attend/initiate project reviews with Project Designers to develop and refine electrical design requirements, product selection and sizing.
  • Review all client facing documents being sent to the customer for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct project management duties and ensure submittals and products are delivered on-time..
  • Monitor deviations from the original scope of work and issue written change orders, as necessary.
  • Keep internal and external customers informed of the status of their projects, and what we require from them.
  • Maintain accurate project records, documentations and internal/external correspondences with the client in the internal company database, which may be used to facilitate future customer support.
  • Provide technical support to cross-functional departments including sales, application services, production, materials management and quality assurance, as needed.
  • Comply with policies and procedures as specified in the Argus Employee Policy Manual and Quality Management System.
  • Work with Team Lead for continuous improvement aiming to reduce the cost, and lead time.
  • Informing management in a timely manner of any situations where help will be required to deliver the project on time.
  • Provide support, for installation and commissioning when needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Client interaction experience
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Good at working under pressure and staying organized and focused.
  • Fundamental knowledge of HVAC systems or greenhouse climate interactions/process control strategies.
  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.
  • Able to keep accurate records and documentation for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiar with industrial controls particularly DCS and PLC logic.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD viewer, Jira/Confluence, ERP/Epicor Systems
  • Effective team Player

Education and Experience

  • Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent experience.
  • Strong computer skills are required including competency with MS Office
  • Read, Write and Speaks English
  • Knowledge MS Excel
  • Familiarity with project management platforms such as Jira is an asset
